Carter's Birth Story: 6.18.2019

Oh what a wonderful (and fun!!) birth story this was to be a part of! I got to spend nearly an entire day with this awesome family as we waited for their team green turned BLUE little man to make his entrance! And oh what an entrance this little (big!) dude made! I am forever grateful to Tiffany and Zac for letting me capture this little babe’s arrival. I hope you enjoy these…I sure did taking them!!

Barrett's Birth Story: 6.14.2019

This is another birth story that went from 0 to 100mph in like MINUTES!

Katy had to be induced because her little guy was measuring small (due mostly to a 2 vessel cord (instead of a normal 3 one)) and it was better to get him out than keep him in. She and her amazing hubby Tyler had been keeping me posted all day long and it was a long, slow induction. It seemed to take her HOURS to go another centimeter.

Tyler text me an update around 6 and said she was just a 5, progressing really slowly and to take my time. I replied that I was going to put my kiddos to bed in the next hour and head their way and hang out with them…but obviously if things picked up I could be there ASAP. I had already rescheduled my 6 and 6:30pm photoshoots cause I didn’t want to have to race out of theirs to go up to the hospital…and it’s a good thing I did!

A little after 7 Tyler text me still a 5, maybe a 6 but again, SO SLOW and to put my kids to bed and take my time. Like 5 minutes later I get another text from him, “Complete. Pushing.” and I was like WHATTT???!?! So panicked, called him and he’s like “yeah she felt pressure all of a sudden and we can see the top of his head so you probably wanna come.” I was like OMG I AM ON MY WAY!

It usually takes me 20+ minutes to get to St. Luke’s from my house…it took me 11. I sprinted, my very out of shape almost 17 weeks pregnant self through the parking garage and hospital and made it huffing and puffing into their room literally 4 minutes before this sweet little man was born!!! Katy mayyyyyyy have been doing some really good fake pushes until I got there. God bless her.

Little Barrett made his entrance on Friday, June 14th at 5 pounds even! I am so glad I made it and so glad I got to capture some snuggles and skin to skin before he had to go off to the special care nursery for a bit of oxygen and some glucose for his low blood sugar.

UPDATE: I am even more happy that I was able to capture this sweet boy’s arrival for his family — little Barrett went downhill quite fast after I left and is currently fighting for his life in one of the US’s best Children’s hospitals with heart/lung issues…these pics, as his parents have reminded me over and over again, are the only ones they have of him without tubes and machines connected to him. They give them a glimpse into what they hope will be the future with their son: home with them and snuggled up without any machines and support. If you’re the praying time, send some prayers up for little Barrett — he needs them now more than ever.

Ruby June's Birth Story: 5.14.2019

Ahhhh, sweet little Ruby June! Man, good thing I’m already pregnant or CUE THE BABY FEVER!! HAHA!

So I have to detail a bit of Ruby’s birth story… her mama text me Monday morning that she was being induced at 8pm that night. AWESOME. She was already almost 4cm dilated so I figured it was going to go quick. We checked in with each other as the night went on, and about midnight she said she was 4-5cm and they were going to break her water around 4 or 5am…just let her labor down on her own and rest (she just got an epidural). Awesome. I asked if she wanted me to come up and she said no, she didn’t want me waiting around so I said well give me a shout whenever and I’m there. So I dozed off, periodically waking up to check my phone.

At 3:18am I got a text that said, “my water just broke on its own.” I replied, “Awesome I am on my way.” I called my dad to come over (since Mike was working) and I headed to the hospital…got there about 3:50am. Just as I was walking in her husband had grabbed the phone and was getting ready to call me because IT WAS GO TIME, she was 10cm. WOOT! So glad I didn’t wait for that call and just came…because barely 20 minutes later baby was out after only a few pushes (and the last push wasn’t even Rachel — holy fetal ejection reflex!!). So had I waited for that call I wouldn’t have made it!!

But I did, and sweet little Ruby June made her entrance into the world at 4:10am weighing 8 pounds 5 ounces and 21 inches long. Rachel did amazing and made it look SO EASY! Congrats to this sweet family — cannot wait to do their newborn pics next week! I hope you enjoy these…I sure did taking them!!

Rhett's Birth Story: 4.26.2019

Oh goodness. ALL OF THE FEELS with this birth story. Rainbow baby after years of trying, 2 miscarriages, and so many needles and appointments and FINALLY this sweet little boy made his entrance earth side on the late afternoon of Friday, April 26th.

This sweet mama was induced due to gestational diabetes and she ROCKED her induction! Although she was barely 4cm when she called me to come up, I AM SO GLAD SHE DID — she listened to her body and knew it was time, because not long after I got there she was complete and time to push! Which, this mama did maybe two times and out came this adorable little man.

I absolutely loved being able to there to capture big brother Ryker meeting his new little brother Rhett too! It was seriously THE BEST.

I put this video together too for them — this is something new I’ll be offering my birth clients as well and I just love how it turned out!

Man, I hope this sweet little rainbow babe's arrival gives you all the feels…it sure does for me!

Ashton's Birth Story: 4.10.2019

Well this sweet little man decided a whole month before his due date he wanted to make his grand entrance! He wasn’t due until May 8th, but decided at 36 weeks it would be the best time for him to come. Luckily, his entrance was smooth as can be — mama made it look SO EASY (seriously, just a few pushes!!) to get him here! — and despite being a month early, he came out screaming and a healthy five pounds and just the new glimmer in his parents’ eyes!

I was so glad I was able to make it to capture this sweet family’s birth story for their first little one — he is just the cutest little guy and is giving me crazy baby fever seeing him all snuggled up with his mama and daddy! I hope you love these pics…I sure did taking them!!!

Patrick's Birth Story: 3.11.2019

My goodness, another amazing belly birth this morning and I am on such a high from capturing 4 births in less than a week! GOSH I LOVE MY JOB!

This sweet family is one of my favorites…and this little man was such a huge surprise to them after they thought they were done with babes after a miscarriage and some unexplained infertility after their oldest was born. Nope, this little dude had other plans! And my gosh, I am SO GLAD they allowed me to capture his arrival! I am so partial to capturing c-sections and theirs was no exception!

I hope you love these pics…I sure did taking them!!!

Finley's Birth Story: 3.5.2019

If this birth wasn’t the definition of meant to be, I don’t know what is! So my hubby Mike and I got back from Hawaii on Monday, 3/4 at 2pm. At the airport while waiting for our bags I replied to a birth inquiry, due 4/1, from Bethany with some questions and suggested we meetup in the next week or so to talk in person and chit chat about me possibly snapping her birth. I never heard back…

Until Tuesday morning. I was leaving a newborn session and stopped at Walgreens to pick up a prescription and my phone pinged and I saw Bethany’s email at 11:30am, which, to summarize, was a very panicked OMG MY WATER BROKE THEY ARE INDUCING ME I AM 36 WEEKS YOU ARE IN HAWAII WE WANT YOU HERE IF THERE’S ANY CHANCE PLEASE CALL and she left her number.

My heart raced cause I was pretty free the next day or so and DUH! I love me a last minute birth! I quickly sent her a text that I was indeed back from Hawaii and very available and to give me a shout. She called an hour later and was SO EXCITED that I was home and able to do this and maybe a bit terrified of this happening today, nearly a month before her due date! I kinda explained everything I do in my in-person consults and in my contract and told her to keep me posted.

The day went on and not much was happening…I got a message about 4pm that she was still about 1-2cm and not much was going on. Her mom then text me at 6:45pm saying she was 3cm and having contractions but would keep me posted. Awesome. Figured with being a first time mom we’d be looking at a 4am call for me to come and an early, sunrise babe. NOPE. WRONG WRONG WRONG.

I was sitting in my robe at 8:30pm with my hair still wet from my shower catching up on some emails when my phone pinged with another text from Bethany’s mom: “She’s 9cm you better come now” HOLY HELL!! She went quickkkkk! In the fastest get ready EVER I threw on my clothes, threw my hair back in a wet bun, grabbed my camera bag and made it to Barnes in record time. I got there about five minutes before dad, who had run home to let the dog out because there was PLENTY of time before this team green babe was coming (jokes!!), and then the doc walked in shortly after.

This first time mama was AMAZING. Not only did she have a super fast labor, she pushed out this sweet little team green TURNED PINK (who everyone thought was a boy, by the way) babe in just a few pushes! She made it look so easy! Finley needed a little bit of help to get the breathing thing down, but after some amazing work by the NICU team she was all good to go and back snuggling up with mama not even a half hour after her early arrival.

Man, this birth gave me all of the feels — and I took it as a massively huge sign that THIS IS WHAT I AM MEANT TO BE DOING for the sole fact that I had made it and was back from vacay to be able to snap it. I hope you love these pics…man, I sure did taking them!!!

Maverick's Birth Story: 3.6.2019

Oh my goodness, what a crazy past 24 hours I have had! Two births, a room apart from each other, at the same hospital, almost exactly 24 hours apart!! WILD!! But AMAZING! And so perfectly timed as I’ve been home about 48 hours or so from my Hawaiian vacation!

This adorable little (or big!!) man Maverick made quite the entrance! Knowing his mama’s history with quick labors, I elected to head her way when she was 4cm and I’m glad I did because just about an hour and a half later this guy arrived earthside weighing in a a massive 9 pounds 8 ounces at just 37 weeks!! What a chunker he is! THE BACK ROLLS!! GAHHHH! His mama and daddy were just completely smitten with him! He did need a little help getting his lungs cleared out but after some cpap and suction love he seemed to perk right up and want to eat…and eat he did!

I just loved documenting this sweet little dude’s birth story — and I just LOVE his parents too! And his amazing nurse…she is one of my all-time favorites and was SO GLAD she was there for both of these back to back deliveries I had! I hope you enjoy these pics…I sure did taking them!!

Brooks' Birth Story: 2.18.2019

First off, how freaking gorgeous is this mama?!??! She made bringing her third sweet babe into this world look so incredibly easy! And this was another birth that time was on my side, as mama went from 4cm to baby out in just about an hour! Let’s say I made it with just a few moments to spare — but I am SO GLAD I did because I am literally OBSESSED with how these pictures turned out!

I did come back for a Fresh 48 later in the morning too so big brother and big sister could meet their new little bro. They were beaming and just so sweet in seeing and holding him for the first time!

I hope you love these pics…I sure did taking them!

Dakota's Birth Story: 1.3.2018

Oh what a wonderful WONDERFUL birth story to start 2019 with! This sweet little lady made her arrival just a few days into 2019 via scheduled c-section and I am forever grateful I was able to be there to capture her entrance! Her parents are just wonderful and were so smitten with adding a new little lady to their family. This was just a beautiful birth to attend and I am forever grateful to being able to capture little miss Dakota’s arrival! Happy 2019 friends!
